Protecting the long-term future of the art community in San Francisco means supporting the city’s youth who express a special interest in art.
That’s why ArtSpan produces Youth Open Studios, showcasing the work of young artists during SFOS each fall and throughout the year. ArtSpan pairs existing organizations with Artist Mentors who offer workshops and coaching to help young artists prepare for public exhibitions.
Since launching in 2014, Youth Open Studios has helped fuel the creative visions of over 500 youth artists. We now provide participating groups with exhibition opportunities throughout the year, as well as field trips to inspiring galleries and artist studios.
This past winter, Arc Gallery & Studios generously hosted the inaugural YOS Winter Art Exhibition. Priscilla Otani of Arc reflected on the event, “I wanted to enable these youth artists to exhibit in a real art gallery, and they rose to the occasion. Everyone who came loved the experience.”
The show featured artwork from seven youth arts groups, representing 80 artists, with all proceeds from art sales going directly to the exhibitors. The opening event was irresistibly inspiring, filled with wonderful artwork and proud artists. Lucky collectors snapped up fresh art as artists of all ages participated with a fun painting project in the midst of the gallery bustle. The experience gave us all hope that the future SF art scene is in good hands!
