Artist Spotlight: Rodney Ewing #355

Do you work specifically in one medium?
I was trained as a printmaker and consider drawing my first love, but I have let my subject matter guide my medium. So it varies from drawing, printing, painting, or installation, whatever it takes to communicate my ideas the most effectively. Currently I am working on a series of drawings composed of water, ink, and salt. They are about how water has influenced the African-American diaspora. The figures appear as if they are composed of water.

What is the place of your work in society?
Do you use your artwork to comment on current politics, the economy, or social issues?
I believe that art is a moving conversation that should be contributed to no matter what your subject matter may be. My work can be considered political in nature, so I feel responsible that the work that I make adds to this dialogue.
